Why?
My recipes seem to do all right on XP, although I'd imagine that Vista
probably adds a little more flavor.

I'd dump the chinese sneaker spam guy into the bozo filter bin with
Loogy and the rest of the assholes, but I don't want to provoke an
international event: the sneaker guy would complain.

I am truly sorry that I do not visit newsgroups in exactly the same
way all you guys do. Uh, no I'm not.. Anyway, if you all just let me
mark them and leave it alone, you will find your own experience much
better, as I will mine. And please don't tell me how to read the
groups, I have my reasons. So for now, if you accept the fact that
once in a while you may see a dot, and I have a better experience all
around, we will all be much better off... Thank you for your
understanding.

Your dots make things worse for the majority of us. I have Tim
killfiled because he keeps perpetuating the stupidity. That means I
don't see his other posts, either, so I end up losing a little there
as well. The annoyance of his dot spamming overrides anything useful
he might post, so he's in the penalty box. I really would rather
continue to see your other posts which are often entertaining to say
the least. If you follow Tim, I'll probaly ditch you at some point
soon, as well. I'll bet I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Personally, I find your anti-spam posts, even if only a dot, much more
enjoyable than the bullshit from Harry, Don, and JimH.
Help yourself, and don't feel badly about it!

That is exactly why I note it as spam, and then leave the brief
subject line so those who wish to read them can, and free speech is
not stifled. And to saltys post, I just don't see how 3-4 dots a day
can be much more harmful than me trying to hash through 50 word
subject lines that take up my whole screen. Not to mention, a good way
to have your cake and eat it too, would be to use your filters to kick
anything with the word "spam" in the subject line, that way you could
still watch me and the others in our other OT posts... Are you all
going to tell me that you can't kill anything with spam in the subject
line?
really guys, a dot or even three is nothing. It's funny, we are able
to watch the spam rejection we run on our systems, realtime, live. It
is frekin amazing. We filter nearly 300,000 per minute from one of our
servers running about 1500 client mail boxes. That's just what gets
bounced before the other systems we have take over. I have a mailbox
that is over 15 years old, and I only get 10-15 spams a day, most
folks get a lot more than that. Anyway, I just don't see why three or
four dots a day is so much to worry about in this environment, if it
is, someone could explain it to me?
I think a general convention like the one Tim and I try to use is the
best way to go. We do not want to censor free speech, so we make it
easier to kill, at the same time leaving it for those who are
interested. Start the subject line with either "OT-***", or SPAM-****,
then those who wish to filter them out (my mail program does it so I
know your big special readers can too).
Kill file me if you must, you got filters, use em'. Or learn how to
use them correctly, and let me continue to "enlighten" you all with my
simple minded crap...

Please explain how three or 4 dots a day, can be more trouble for you
than me having to scroll down pages of 50 word subject lines in my
viewer. Then explain to me why you just don't bite the bullet and
filter anything with the words "spam" in the subject line. Am I
missing something here?

Exactly right. If you filter on "spam", it will also filter any
subject line where words include that sequence of letters, even if
separated by a space. xxxxs pamxxxx, xxxsp amxxx, etc
Since I use a real newsreader and a real news server, I am able to
filter the spam itself out very easily without fooling around like
some pimply faced nerd who really doesn't have a clue.

Its a factory ship. One of the HD channels had a show on one of
the processors, I want to say it was the Alaska Spirit, but that
could be way wrong.
Its amazing how much they cram onto those boats. Huge nets and
the stuff to pull them in, massive engine and a factory floor
crammed full of belts and slicers and washers and freezers.

Yeah, after I got to thinking, I thought it probably was a processing

Has next to nothing to do with night vision. Same thing is true in
broad daylight. When you have a relatively bright light shining
directly into your eyes it is more difficult to see dimmer objects.
Regardless of the actual ammount of light involved. It takes as much
as 45 minutes in close to complete darkness to get full night vision.
Ask any astronomer.

my experience - I bought a house that had an inground tank and hose to fill
the boat, the gas had not been used or filled for at least 8 years. I
burned it in my truck until the tank was empty, it ran fine, but I would
just mix in half tank of fresh gas. If your gas is a two stroke mix, there
is more of a tendancy for the oil to separate and depending on the oil, it
may try to plug your fuel filter. I used to fly ultralights, and would
never trust my life to stale two stroke mix - but an outboard, chain saw
etc - go for it!

MS has about some version of it's os on about 90% of all the personal computers. That is hundreds of millions of installations. There will always be people that have some combination of hardward and other software that ms did not anticipate and will cause the operation system to do something wrong.
At the same time lots of organizations will delay implementing a new ms operating system. It generally has a lot more to do with their technical staff being familiar with the new software or their in house applications not being ready for the new os than problems. Though some will complain about the problems in the new os as well.
That is not a new phenomenon. It has been happening since windows 3.1. As every version has matured the problems have declined. Simply because of the sheer volume of installations problems get more press that the other os'. For everyone with a problem there are 10s of thousands that have no problems at all. Vista is close to reaching the 100 million install mark. Obviously it is not a crisis.

I spent about an hour this past weekend reading about some of the
problems *some* Apple users are having with the latest release of OS X,
aka Leopard. Some Apple folk are having some serious issues. My guess is
that if Apple had the same sized user base for its operating systems as
Microsoft does, and if those Apple users were similar to Windows users,
the number and seriousness of problems would be similar.
If memory serves, I read where Apple has under 5% market share of
desktop PC operating systems.
This used to be a boater newsgroup. There's no requirement that posters
here have any knowledge of a computer OS or in fact have a boat. We have
plenty of boatless posters here who also present as too slow to use a
computer, too.

I wonder who started the discussion on how GREAT Vista was? Ohhhh yeah,
now I remember, it was Harry Krause. You are just upset because most
people don't think it offers any advantages over WinXP, but definitely
has a ton of bugs that MS has not been worked out. Univ. of Penn IT
dept. does not recommend Vista and does not recommend Vista SP1.
ZDNet conducted a survey and 80% of the IT depts. said they had will NOT
be updating to Vista, and they will continue using the same OS they
currently are using.
