Duck, I think you may be right about that. I know I downloaded
something with v.7 I'll have to check when I get home.

Well, lets just say I downloaded "something"

Too bad those great news readers don't have an "ignore thead" button,
that would solve everything.. too bad.. Later.

They do. I just hit it.

Well, that's a wonderful solution for your email pop server, but
newsgroups use news servers to gather articles, not pop servers.

I understand your point, but I think you are confusing something.

These aren't server side problems - they are client side problems. And
the solution is to use a reader, on your laptop, that clears the spam
for you.

Secondly, if you are using a direct Usenet feed, then you are going to
see them. I use Easynews as a feed which uses the Supernews model for
spam. Very little gets through. I had a conversation with one of
Easynew's techs when I donated a ton of idle server time (I only use
about 15% of my alloted download bandwidth to the Space Watch and the
Dana Farber Research Institute for use in their research) and she told
me that they clean roughly 1,200 spam messages a day, but some gets
through. I don't see the China spam stuff unless you dot it and label
it something else. That's what I'm talking about - I don't even know
it's there unless you or Tim dot it.

Maybe I'm missing the point - I'm willing to admit I'm wrong about
this, but it seems to me that you are looking at it the worng way
around.

You missed the point. Simply use a decent news reader program with filters.

As I stated, I don't find the chinaspam crap annoying.

Keeerist Scotty. Just take Tom's offer for a NG reader (or solutions
others offered) and move on already instead of continuing your bitching here

It takes only about 4 minutes to install Agent. It has an ignore thread
option, but you are usually starting a new thread with your 'china spam' or
'shoe spam' or whatever.

I don't really care how long it takes, I would never install anything
on someones computer, even with permission. Trust me, as a tech, I
know that once you do that, everything that ever happens to that, and
their next two computers is your fault;) That was the point of all of
our work in the first place, we can work from anywhere, anytime.

When I am away from my machines, I get my emails and newsgroup via a USB
stick with the portable versions of the programs installed. Nothing is
installed on the machine I am using.

Well I'll be

That's exactly what I did. I downloaded IE v7.

i thougt the selection page looked a bit odd. But anyway, that's ok at
least it bounced AOL from taking over the homepage by aggression.

nuts with AOL! I'm surprised they haven't tanked a long time ago.

but that was disgussed in another thread when Soggydog thought I
should be reported for terms of violation, when there was nothing
violated.

Oh well. Go ahead. Make My Day!

Baggage... All I need is a teahouse or a library, even if they lose my
luggage or it falls off the boat, in the campfire, gets stolen. It was
something that we took years to work out with different providers and
developers, we wanted that from day one. The first hosting servers we
had, we had to convince a NOC that "hosting" was going to be a great
business and they should let us have more than 5 IP's per machine;)
Before that, they only provided dedicated servers to individual
businesses. We had a lot to do with the origional development of their
first automated billing, and GUI based web administration of client
websites, email, other bells and whistles.. But from the beginning we
knew we wanted everything to eventually be available securly, with a
simple browser.. In the beginning we could run things, but needed ssh
or similar and pgp... We did all this so we can provide 24/7 service,
within reason, or get to a computer and make adjustments, from about
anywhere, anytime. That allows us to go pretty much anywhere we want,
as long as we know we have a phone for emergency calls, and a computer
with a browser.. And they are almost anywhere.

We have gotten calls say at a friends for dinner. Something simple
like someone has used up their disk space. We can go in quickly, check
the email boxes, usually empty the box, or if they wish, increase the
bandwidth for their account, and be back on the water in 10 minutes.
With the cell card for the laptop, we can work from just about
anywhere...

The biggest benefit is mrs. JW can come out and play with me and the
kids, even if we are going visiting half way across the state. Or take
a couple of weeks in Florida with my bud and know we have access to
everything as soon as we hit the ground and get to his house. Works
for us.

Ahh Loogy, surely not. I had it pictured in my mind as Kraussie playing to
a SRO crowd. Are you saying [gasp] that Kraussie was lying?

There are displacement issues to deal with that would
probably negate the practicality of such an enclosure.

Why don't you invent a big air bladder. Slide it under
your bout and inflate. Properly designed you could lift
the stern out of the water all the way to lawyer heaven.
